Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) & Meena House

I’m not sure what to say about the length of time it took to build, or the cost of this incredible place. The Grand Egyptian Museum is the largest museum in the world dedicated to one civilization.

Interestingly, the museum was announced in 1992, with construction starting 13 years later in 2005. It’s taken 20 years for start to finish ~ the same number of years it took the great pyramid of Egypt twenty years as well. The official opening of the whole museum is now scheduled for November 1, 2025. In the meantime, all the galleries except for the Tutankhamun gallery are open.

The cost of was one billion dollars.

Grand Egyptian Museum

Wow, just Wow! Chris put it much more succinctly, “If you told me years ago that I would ever be the guy that slowed everyone down in a museum because I was enjoying everything so much. I would have said you’re nuts.”

Too much, pace yourself and understand how you would attack seeing it. That alone is worth the trip to an Egypt.

You gotta have fun at the museum.

Museums like the GEM, provide with such a wealth on information that people tend to think it is stuffy. Nothing could be more wrong. They are a way to learn our history and enjoying it in the process. Case in point, the rear end portfolio just got expanded.

Another is engaging with total strangers.

Meet three of the nicest young men at the museum . Youssef, Mustafa and Saif.

The friendly people. It dies not take long to realize just friendly and welcoming the Egyptians are. As mom said and I do, “there is always food in the fridge and a seat at the table.

Meena House, great selection, good food, nice view and amazing people. Best stairway to a bathroom, I’ve ever seen.

Tomorrow, Old Cairo, and adventures of being a pedestrian and all the honking codes of the road. Thank you for sharing this blog and subscribing, thank you for not keeping us a secret.
