Naguib and Ed’s Excellent Adventure
Join this dynamic duo as we travel from Glasgow up to the Isles of Skye and Harris. The main purpose is for Ed to show off his beloved Scotland to me, Naguib; it’s not a secret, but I already love it. This trip has become somewhat of an Edstravaganza from the pickup at Glasgow Airport on September 5th to the last night in Glasgow, and then the flight home on the 19th. Ed has gone to great lengths to ensure optimal photo opportunities. After all, we have been on many adventures together over the almost 45 years of friendship. As a case in point of how seriously he takes his job, he wanted the front windshield so sparkling that he bought a buffer and a protective coating. This will provide clear shooting opportunities even through his front windshield at all times, not just when we stop.
Ed has travelled extensively to scout locations for the photo shoot. He has spared no effort in making this trip one for the ages. This author is sharing all the photos and giving co-credit with Ed; since this is a we photo shoot, there's no difference in who pressed the shutter release.
What is our end goal? Fun! Who knows, another trip? A photo workshop? A book? We already know this will be broadcast to our friends and followers.
The story of Ed and Naguib isn’t starting in September 2026. The story and indeed the friendship go back forty-five years, to Sears Canada in the early eighties. I was a sales rep in the carpet department. Ed was my immediate supervisor and department head. It didn’t take long to make a connection. Before long, there were fishing trips, canoeing, and interior camping in Algonquin Park. Eventually, the connection grew, as Ed had me photograph his wedding. To this day, one of the most fun productions in a fifty-year-plus photography career.
Many of my life’s seminole moments had an Ed connection. For instance, I was afraid of dogs; Ed had a Doberman, and he was such a softie that fear disappeared, and now we have the pleasure of our third dog. I don’t know if we could ever be without one. You can read about my latest dog, Shiloh, who has become quite the documenter of our lives. Simply look up Shiloh anywhere on this website, and you will see her contributions.
Even our cottage, one of the greatest accomplishments of our lives, is due in no small part to camping in Algonquin and cottage trips with Ed and his family.
There are numerous other connections, and I may share them over time.
If you would like to know more about Ed, he was featured in my first book, “Ordinary People, Extraordinary Lives.”
No documentary about Ed and me would ever be complete without mentioning our once-in-a-lifetime trip, called the “Big Ticket Cruisers,” where seven guys from Sears pooled resources and travelled to the British Virgin Islands to sail a 52-foot Beneteau around the islands. This trip is also shared on this website. Follow the link: https://www.nkerba.com/blog/the-big-ticket-cruisers?rq=big%20ticket
Every element of the planning, booking and itinerary has been due to Ed’s efforts. There are not many people that this control freak would ever give up the reins to. We are so similar in our opinions about what to see and how to see it that I trust him completely. I have proven my faith and trust in him, as evidenced in the Big Ticket Cruisers trip, and yes, even with my life!
FINALLY, the trip blog needs advance preparation, as I/we will be having too much fun to list all the day’s events for our readers. The basic outline is entered, and anything extra, trip photos, and video highlights only will be shared on the fly. We will literally be taking hundreds of images daily. You may see a dozen or two. Every day is so well planned that Ed even created maps with AI to show in graphic detail the day’s itinerary. We will simply put the icing on the cake.
Each day’s core report is already in place and ready to be published; we will publish them as we fill in the gaps. So come along with us on this most incredible of trips, stay tuned.
As Robert Burns said,” Wherever I wander, wherever I rove; the hills of the highland forever I love." – We will add colour and mischievous merriment to the land. So, "Come mairch wi' us."
