Chasing Light:

Naguib Kerba’s 2027 Calendar

The stories behind this calendar

I love waking the sun up — even on holidays. I am always on the lookout for photo opportunities, and most of my favourite frames were never the destination. They happened along the way: at daybreak on a road in the Madawaska Valley, at golden hour on the Nile, on a headland in Scotland as the light faded. Life isn't the destination. It's about enjoying the journey.

Chasing Light is my 2027 calendar — thirteen photographs gathered from two years of those journeys: Scotland, Egypt, the Rockies, Algonquin country and the British Columbia coast. Every month pairs its photograph with a classic line — Camus, Heraclitus, Muir, Dickens — and, for the first time, each image comes with its own short story: what you're looking at, and how it was captured.

A few favourites:

  • The cover — a single-track road climbing toward a whitewashed lighthouse in Scotland, the sun setting in gold beneath a burning sky. The frame that named the whole project.

  • January, Invincible Summer — the sun burning through fog over a Madawaska spruce line, shot at daybreak on the way to somewhere else.

  • February, Five Thousand Years — an older boatman poling his felucca at golden hour on the Nile at Luxor. The only human face in the calendar.

  • August — a Canada goose at the exact instant of touchdown, mirrored perfectly in still water at Exshaw.

  • December — a tortoiseshell cat in a Santa hat, photographed on Christmas Day 2009. Some frames wait seventeen years for their moment.

The details: a signed, hand-numbered limited edition of 150 copies, printed in Canada on premium paper, $30. Reservations close Sunday, November 15, 2026, and you'll have your calendar before Christmas. As of this writing, 119 of the 150 are already spoken for — 31 remain, and edition numbers are assigned in the order reservations arrive.
