Chasing Legends: From Glenfinnan to the Isle of Skye
We logged another incredible day on the Scottish road, journeying from Glenfinnan all the way onto the Isle of Skye. The drive alone was spectacular, but the highlight was setting our sights on the iconic pinnacle itself: the Old Man of Storr.
Taking on that trail turned out to be an honest test of stamina. My tracker logged around 7,000 for the day, and somehow, in classic mountain fashion, the descent back to the car managed to feel uphill, too. Looking around at the crowd of hikers, I noticed I appeared to be holding down the title of the oldest fellow on the path. Naturally, I couldn't resist breaking the ice with fellow travellers coming up the trail: I told them they could turn right around, because they were already looking at the real Old Man of Storr in person.
After completing the trek, we wound down the road to our base in Uig, where we were met with a classic Highland Sunday reality check: almost everything was quiet and closed. Even the main hotel dining room in the village was completely booked out with resident guests.
Rather than letting it dampen the evening, we improvised. Ed gathered provisions and we assembled an impromptu bedroom mezza—a relaxed spread of small bites and nibbles, which happens to be my absolute favourite meal. Looking out after a long day in the hills, with tired feet and a good spread, it turned out to be the perfect end to an unforgettable day.
